Book: Liberal Media Distorts News Bias →
The liberal bias of the mainstream media tilts so far left that any outlets not in that political lane, like the Drudge Report and Fox News Channel, look far more conservative than they really are, according to a UCLA professor’s new book out next month.

Thinking Outside The Browser Box: Why Should Apple... →
I love when tech writers respond to articles by other tech writers. MG Siegler does an amazing job at talking about how Apple is different and how they “[re-imagine] the way things are done.”
When most people think about the Web, they still view it a bit of a wildcard in many ways. There’s a reason Microsoft Windows and Office are still making so much money. It’s certainly not...

Why Groupon Is Poised For Collapse →
An interesting read.
Translation: They’re using money from new deals to pay for previous deals.
Also interesting.
A Ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investment operation that pays returns to separate investors, not from any actual profit earned by the organization, but from their own money or money paid by subsequent investors.

The Lone Star Jobs Surge →
The Texas economy has grown on average by 3.3% a year over the last two decades, compared with 2.6% for the U.S. overall. Yet the core impulse of Obamanomics is to make America less like Texas and more like California, with more government, more unions, more central planning, higher taxes. That the former added 37% of new U.S. jobs suggests what an historic mistake this has been.

Starbucks wakes up and smells the coffee – and... →
We truly believe that when we deliver an amazing experience we can have a positive impact on someone’s day and that they, in turn, can pass on the positive momentum starting a ripple effect that can potentially start a movement.
I absolutely LOVE Starbucks as a company. They strive for excellence and are not afraid to correct themselves when they lose their way.
It Just Works. →
Files are something Microsoft worries about. Files in the cloud are something Google and Amazon worry about. Apple’s iCloud is about opening an application and the thing you want to access being there.
Great read and an interesting view on the differences between Google and Apple on the cloud.

Short logic: Groupon IPO: Pass on this deal →
shortlogic:
Groupon has filed its S-1 and hopes to raise $750M in its initial public offering. Given they’re currently losing a staggering $117M per quarter, despite revenues of $644M, they’ll be burning through that cash almost as soon as it hits their account.
…
If you can’t figure out how to make money on three billion in revenue, when exactly will the profit magic be found?

"In the last 10 years, we've learned a lot."
In the last 10 years, we’ve learned a lot. We’ve learned to treat every day with the same enthusiasm we had on the first day. We’ve learned the importance of giving our customers just as much attention as they give us. And we’ve learned the art of hiring the right people for the right positions. We’ve learned it’s better to adapt to the neighborhood rather than...

Gowalla: Gowalla Humanizes the Campus Experience →
gowalla:
Word of mouth is important in a richly saturated campus life and students often rely on the good word from their friends. With students connecting with their locations and sharing those experiences in real-time, it’s easy to find what’s going on at the quad or who’s speaking at the Library.

After the success of last year’s Golden Gifts promotion during the holidays, we knew we were going to have to do something rather special for 2010. Put quite simply, we have a big surprise in store for you this year.

Day 06 — Whatever tickles your fancy
We didn’t sell 2 million of them last quarter because it’s trendy, we sold 2 million last quarter because it’s a phenomenal product that’s reinventing the way people enjoy music.

Day 05 — Your favorite quote
Because of what Baylor has meant to you in the past, because of what she will mean to you in the future, oh my students, have a care for her. Build upon the foundations here a great school of which I have dreamed so that she may touch and mould the lives of future generations and help to fit them for life here and hereafter.

Here in the U.S., we’re gearing up to stuff ourselves with us much food as possible on Thursday, while enjoying the company of friends and a little American football. Others will be running a race, watching a parade, or helping serve meals to the less fortunate. We hope it’s a special day for you…
Go out with Gowalla!
